CLO3D alternative

A CLO3D alternative, for the production pattern.

CLO3D is built to design and show a garment in 3D. AMI creates the 3D asset from an existing pattern or specs in your system, then grades it on your rules once the sample is approved. If the pattern is what you are fighting, that difference matters.

What CLO3D is for

CLO3D is 3D garment design software. You draft or import a pattern, drape it on an avatar, try fabrics and fit, and render the result. It is very good at that, and it is widely used for virtual sampling.

In 2026 CLO added an AI pattern drafter, still in beta, and it grades from a size table. For production markers it gives basic fabric usage estimates, and its partners point you to dedicated marker software.

Where the gap is

In most CLO workflows the 3D garment and the production pattern live in different places. The look gets approved in 3D. The production pattern gets drafted, trued and graded somewhere else, often in a 2D system like AccuMark, often by a different person.

When the two drift apart, the sample that comes back is not the one that was approved.

What AMI does differently

  • Pattern first. AMI drafts a graded production pattern from a sketch, a photo or a sentence, on your specs or ours.
  • 3D from the pattern. The 3D asset is created from an existing pattern or specs in your system, to keep your brand’s fit consistent.
  • The production side too. The marker and the fabric yield come from the same file.
  • Your existing files. AMI reads the pattern files your CAD already writes, rule tables included.

When CLO3D is the better fit

  • Your main job is design visualisation, lookbooks or virtual showrooms.
  • You need detailed fabric physics and avatar fitting for design reviews.
  • Your team already drafts production patterns well and only needs the 3D side.

Using both

AMI exports graded AAMA DXF with its .RUL file, which CLO3D can import. Teams that like CLO for design reviews can keep it, and use AMI for the production pattern underneath.
