Garment cost calculator.
Cost per unit from fabric, trims and sewing minutes, and the price that holds your margin. Free, nothing to sign up for.
How it is calculated
Cost per unit = fabric + trims + sewing + finishing, plus overhead. Fabric is yards per garment times price per yard. Sewing is the standard minutes for the style times your labor cost per minute.
The price at your margin is cost ÷ (1 − margin). A 40% margin on a $22.66 cost is $37.77.
The defaults
The starting numbers are published US averages for a women's 5-pocket jean made in runs of 300 or more: about 16 sewing minutes, labor at $30 an hour, denim at $6.50 a yard. Replace them with yours.
Where the inputs come from
Yards per garment is the number most shops guess. AMI takes it from the marker it lays off the graded pattern, so the yardage starts from the file. See how it works.
